I’m a really big fan of old school political pamphleteering. I still have candidate literature from when I was working in New York City politics. I have some weird obsession that with these pieces of paper that are made for only one day, for very specific people and often produce detrimental results for political candidates. I would pay anything for an original of the fabled “Vote for Cuomo Not the Homo” flyer strewn across Queens Boulevard during Mario Cuomo’s 1977 New York City mayoral campaign against Ed Koch.
Flyers can be quite nasty, and now they are even more permanent: the tradition continues proudly on you tube. Here’s a partisan video pamphlet that’s actually true. It’s nice that in the very least, George Bush has been so scary that people actually began, at some point, to pay attention again. I hope it continues, so that we don’t get this guy as our next idiot emperor.
