Skull Kontrol
As a kid, I loved the Indiana Jones movies. I watched them over and over again. I love making jokes about how there’s no time for love, Docta Jones. So a few weeks back when the lastest installment, Indiana Jones and the Kingdom
of the Crystal Skull, hit the theaters, I was there. Not because I’m all that gung ho on movies, or seeing them right when they open, but because it was something to do.
So I sat through this 2 plus hour long search for aliens in South America that supposedly have skulls made out of quartz (though the skulls looked more like plastic filled with cellophane). And no, I’m not disappointed because of the Hollywood-ness of this summer blockbuster. I already know there are no longer standards of good and bad. My problem was - and I don’t mean to spoil anything for anyone - though this movie is mildly entertaining, it seems to be one long reference to scientology.
These movies have always been about far fetched fantasies of discovering the world’s secrets, but really? Aliens creating a planet of human worshippers? Spoiler alert!! The ending implies that KNOWLEDGE is the treasure. Knowledge of the aliens? Does that make you smarter/better? Ugh. I can’t think about this nonsense anymore.
