Since Hulu has put up full episodes of The Daily Show and The Colbert Report, I’ve started watching them there. Recently, I’ve been bombarded with McDonald’s ‘Dollar Menunaire’ spots.
If you visit the website dedicated to this marketing ploy you’ll get an illustrated hippie-ish professor giving lessons on ‘Rich Life 101.’ Now, what I want to know is if poor people are actually tricked into thinking that if they eat at McDonald’s, they are participating in some form of affluence. I mean, it’s pretty clear when you walk into a McDonald’s that affluence is not on the menu, and you, my friend, are not a menunaire. Whatever that means.
In one spot, an illustrated man crouching next to a tip jar is trying to hook up a flatscreen TV and the announcer says “Dollar Menunaire wisdom: any job can have a tip jar.” Except for McDonald’s, apparently.
